Persian cats first came to the United States in the 1800s. Before that, they were in Europe since the 1600s. This breed has been around for a long time and is very popular. They are family oriented cats with beautiful fur coats. The downside of which is the regular grooming needed to keep their fur pretty and fluffy. But if you like a lap cat, and don't mind brushing during tv commercials, this may be the breed for you.
Persians are usually friendly, affective, and docile. There is a short hair version of the breed that was developed in the 1950s. Short haired persians have the same type of personality as long haired persians, the only difference is the length of the hair.
